I'm experiencing breakoutsUpdated a month ago
When you start using a new product which causes an increase in skin cell turnover,
such as Vitamin A’s (Retinoids) or exfoliating acids, you may experience a process
known as ‘purging’.
The increase in skin cell turnover can cause debris trapped deep in existing clogged
pores to rise quickly to the skin's surface, which may appear as new spots. Purging is
a good thing, as this shows that your skin cells are regenerating quicker, pushing out
any congestion, and this will ultimately lead to a smoother-looking, blemish-free
complexion in the long run with consistent use.
Following the phase-in guidelines of Vitamin A (use twice a week for the first two
weeks, every other night for the next two weeks and then every night onwards -
working up one strength at a time) can help to reduce the chance of purging as your
skin can adapt to this increased process. Typically, we advise that the purging should
calm within 1-2 months of consistent use.
If this does not help, please contact us here with full details of
the skincare regime you have been following, as well as any other information that
may be helpful to note, such as your skin history, and we will be more than happy to
advise further.
